WILMORE, KY
– The Titans (3-3) wrapped up their three-game series with Asbury University
(6-6), coming away with their first series win of the season. Titans took game 1
by a score of 6-4, but dropped game 2 in walk-off fashion to the Eagles 8-9.
IUSB took
advantage of nine errors from the Eagles defense in game 1 where only 3 of
their 6 runs were earned runs. Zack Lazenby and Spencer McCool each had two
hits for the Titans. Sparkplug Nick Kellams also picked up a pinch-hit single
for IUSB.
Junior RHP
Kyle Rago (1-1) was extremely efficient on the mound for the Titans throwing a
complete game allowing 4 runs, 1 earned, and walking none. Rago got ahead of
batters and pitched to contact the whole game only striking out 2, while
throwing 75 pitches.
Game 2 of
the doubleheader was back and forth as there were three different lead changes
throughout the game. Junior RHP Ben Wicklund (1-1) got the start for the Titans
only lasting 3 innings giving up 7 runs, 5 earned, and striking out 1.
Sophomore RHP Tyler Reece has proved to be one of Head Coach Mike Huling’s top
arms out of the bullpen, throwing 2 innings allowing only 2 hits and no earned
runs.
Senior Kevin
Phelps and Sophomore Spencer McCool led the offense for the Titans as they were
the only two to have a multi-hit game. McCool went 3 for 3 with an RBI and
Phelps went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s. Junior Brandon Papp was all over the base
paths as well, going 1 for 2 with 4 runs and 3 stolen bases.
Heading into
the final inning of play the Titans were deadlocked at 8 with the Eagles.
Freshman Jordan Moore couldn’t hold off the Eagles allowing a walk-off single
to Asbury’s Landon Skaggs who was pinch hitting. The Titans couldn’t quite
complete the sweep but still walked away with a series win.
