Titans Drop Series to IU Kokomo

KOKOMO, Ind. – The Titans (0-3) wrapped up their series with IU Kokomo (3-4) with a doubleheader on Sunday. They dropped game one 2-3 and game two 10-17.

Sophomore Andy Ross started the first game for the Titans, giving them a strong outing on the mound, exiting the game with a 2-1 lead. Ross ended up throwing 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out two. Ross was relieved by Senior Zane Gonzalez in the fifth inning with a runner on.

Gonzalez struck out two batters to end the inning but couldn’t hold off the Cougars in the sixth, allowing two runs and losing the lead. Gonzalez finished with 1 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out three and receiving the loss.

At the plate the Titans had 5 hits and got some timely knocks from Sophomore’s Demeris Barlow and Jake Wilburn. Wilburn finished 1 for 3 with an RBI, while Barlow also went 1 for 3 with an RBI in his Titan debut.

Game two saw a lot of offense from both teams as there were a combined 24 hits and 27 runs.
Junior Tyler Reece got the ball for the Titans in game two only lasting 3+ innings while allowing seven runs on seven hits before being relieved by Senior Blake Logsdon.

Logsdon only went 1 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 3 hits. Coach Buysse went to his bullpen again and brought in Sophomore Collin Gordon.

Gordon went 2 innings in his efforts to keep the Titans in the game. Gordon ended up allowing 3 runs in his stint out of the pen. Freshman Brendon Wills and Junior Sam Libby both made their Titan debuts out of the pen as well.

Wills went 2/3 of an inning allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. While Libby went 1 inning and gave up 1 run.

At the dish the Titans saw a surge in offense, scoring 10 runs on 9 hits. Senior Nick Kellams was the only player to finish with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4 at the plate. Sophomore’s TJ DeHerrera and Tanner Wesp each had 3 RBI’s on the day, while Sophomore catcher Jordan Moore added two RBI’s as well.

The Titans will be back in action next weekend at Taylor University for a four-game set on February 23 and 24.
